Jilly Bird studied at Winchester School of Art in the early 80s. Alongside painting she has worked as a freelance designer and in 2014 co-founded Dorset's first co-working studio. She now works as a full-time painter based in her south coast studio in Bournemouth, Dorset. She is an Associate Member of the Penwith Society of Arts, Penwith Gallery, St Ives.
Jilly has always been fascinated by detail and the mental process by which one can abtract a meaningful scene from such observations. Preferring not to be described as either an abstract or figurative painter, Jilly believes that all art is an interpretation of experience. Her work is always a visual joy, containg energy, focus and a genuine feeling of optimism. In her paintings one is encouraged to slow down and indulge in her interpretations of studied, glimpsed or remembered scenes.
