Asato Ikeda

Overview

Asato Ikeda is a third generation ceramicist born in 1979 in Tobe Cho, the Ehime prefecture in Japan. Growing up around his father’s workshop, he always knew he would follow in his father's footsteps and pursue ceramics.

In 1997, he graduated from a ceramics program at Arita Technical High School in Saga, Japan. At the age of 26, from 2006 to 2008 he was dispatched to Egypt as a Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteer by the Japanese government and taught ceramics to underprivileged children.
Since 2008, he has explored his own creative pottery process in Ryu-sen, Tobecho, exhibiting in numerous galleries in Tokyo. His works use Tobe clay and original glazes to create their dignified beauty and prize both design and functionality.
