Yamaguchi san was born in Japan in 1941. He was the celebrated fifth generation head of the Nishiyama Kiln. In his lifetime, he was selected for many prestigious exhibitions and awards including the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition and, multiple times for the National Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition.

Yamaguchi san passed away in 2018. He is the father of contemporary ceramic artist Makoto Yamaguchi.
