Mayumi Nakamura

Overview

Born in 1976 in Miyazaki, Japan, Mayumi Nakamura studied at the Joshibi University of Art and Design. Up until 2006 she worked for a clothing manufacturer as a designer, before starting her career as a ceramic artist.

Her first solo exhibition entitled ‘The Secret Garden’ was held in 2012 at the Miyazaki Yamakataya Art Gallery and since then she has had a flourishing solo and group exhibition career throughout Japan. She focuses mostly on three-dimensional objects and two-dimensional works with abstract paintings. For Nakamura, ceramics and their varying materials, especially clay, can express invisible things such as emotions and spirituality.
