The Yamato family studio and kilns are nestled in the beautifully green, forested hills of Yamaguchi prefecture, gateway to Japan and ancestral home of the Hagi ceramic tradition. In this collection we see long established traditional Hagi wares, stunning White Hagi works and signature Hagi styles known only to the Yamato family.
Always hugely popular with our clients, this father and son duo's works have been featured in many mixed exhibitions over the gallery's lifetime but this is the first collection dedicated to their very distinctive version of Hagiyaki. It features Kiyoshi Yamato's highly respected repertoire of decorative styles in Daido and Mishima clay bodies but also sees a huge leap forward for his son Keita Yamato's creativity in form and finish.
The collection will feature Chadōgu, wares for the tea ceremony, and Shuki, wares for serving sake during Kaiseki dining.
We are delighted to have them back in the gallery in their first dedicated outing here and very pleased to give you the best chance yet to secure a piece for your collection with nearly 100 works being made available.
The collection will be released online here on our website on Friday 21st February 2025 (GMT)
