Summer Shuki 2025

06 June 2025 - 27 June 2025

Overview

We are thrilled to announce Summer Shuki 2025, a landmark exhibition dedicated to one of Japan’s most revered and deeply human ceramic art forms – Shuki.  Shuki is the Japanese collective noun for the vessels used to serve and drink Japan’s national beverage, Sake or ‘Nihonshu’ to give it its proper name. These vessels, crafted with skill and intention, transcend their functional origins, becoming objects of profound connection – between maker and user, tradition and modernity, artist and clay. They capture the spirit of shared moments, the quiet rituals of life, and the subtle beauty of human interaction.

This year’s exhibition brings together over 200 exceptional pieces from 20 artists, representing a breathtaking diversity of styles, techniques, and philosophies. This collection may well be the largest and most comprehensive showcase of shuki ever assembled outside of Japan. It is a celebration of both mastery and fresh expression, presenting works that span generations, from iconic masters whose names are etched into the history of ceramics to the bold voices of mid-career creators and the fearless energy of emerging talent.

Each piece in Summer Shuki 2025 carries the mark of the artist’s hand and the spirit of their vision. Some works are quiet and contemplative, inviting the viewer to pause and reflect. Others are bold and unconventional, challenging the boundaries of tradition and reimagining what shuki can be. This is a rare opportunity to experience the full breadth of this craft, from meticulously refined cups and pourers to imaginative, avant-garde interpretations that push the art form forward.

The exhibition launches online at 7pm BST on June 6th, 2025, with all pieces available to explore and acquire via our website. For those who appreciate the personal experience of viewing ceramics in person, the collection will be on display in the gallery from Saturday, June 7th, 2025.

We hope this collection inspires you, as it has inspired us, to pause and appreciate the beauty of human connection, tradition, and craftsmanship. Whether you are a long-time collector, a passionate ceramic enthusiast, or simply someone who appreciates the power of handmade objects to enrich our lives, we invite you to share in this celebration.
