We are delighted to announce the forthcoming inaugural solo exhibition of ceramic art by A-S Rope at The Stratford Gallery.

This new body of work explores the relationship between geometric form, materiality and spatial perception. Rope’s sculptural ceramics are characterised by a rigorous engagement with proportion, repetition and balance, while the restrained palette and richly worked surfaces introduce a subtle sense of tactility and variation.

Drawing upon the visual language of modernist sculpture and architectural abstraction, the works occupy an intriguing position between object and sculpture. Their carefully constructed arrangements invite consideration of the relationships between mass, void, symmetry and asymmetry, while the individual elements retain a quiet sense of presence and autonomy.

This exhibition marks an important introduction to Rope’s practice and presents a considered new collection of works in which formal restraint is balanced by a strong sensitivity to material and surface.
