Soul of Japan - The Ceramics of Iga

09 August 2024 - 20 August 2024

Overview

With its history stretching back to the 7th Century the ceramics of Iga have a long and storied association with the most important aspects of Japan's culture.  The ash glazed, scorched and cracked forms are the progenitors of Japanese aesthetics.  Honest, raw and achingly beautiful, Iga yaki embodies purity and a close, contemplative relationship with nature, in many ways the soul of Japan.

This important exhibition has been curated by the wonderful Iga artist Takashi Tanimoto.

This exhibition will include new works from 8 carefully chosen artists from Iga showcasing classic and progressive Iga ceramic creations.  We are pleased to release the stunning lineup of contemporary Iga artists here:

Kei Tanimoto
Takashi Tanimoto
Kazuhiro Fukushima
Shinya Fukushima
Kanji Atarashi
Manabu Atarashi
Hiroyumi Suzuki
Yoshitaka Hasu

Takashi Tanimoto, Kauzuhiro Fukushima & Hiroyumi Suzuki will attend the in gallery opening on August 10th at 2pm.
