‘Elementals’- showcases the work of three accomplished contemporary artists, two exhibiting with The Stratford Gallery for the first time - Nick Sargent a theatre designer turned practising fine artist extraordinaire and celebrated British printmaker, Norman Ackroyd. Aaron Scythe, a New Zealand born Japanese-inspired ceramicist, returns to the gallery for a second time after celebrating his first solo show outside of Asia in 2021.
Titled ‘Elementals’, each artist featured takes a certain inspiration for their works from landscape subjects; Sargent’s latest series of work inspired by an 1808 engraving of the rocks around Banff in Aberdeenshire, Ackroyd’s prints recall remote places around the British Isles and Scythe incorporates scenes of mountains and seas into his Japanese-style ceramic vessels. Presented together, their subjects complement one other harmoniously, however, this presentation is enlivened by the eclectic combination of various different media, including etching and aquatint, woven, embroidered and painted canvas and Oribe and Yobitsugi ware.
