Takuma Murakoshi was born in 1954 in Kyoto, Japan.
Murakoshi san is a Shigaraki ceramic artist whose works are as majestic as the Shigaraki mountains from where he works and collects clay for his pieces. Using purely local clay bodies, minerals and ash for his glazes, he creates works which echo the terrain of his location with earthy browns, snowy whites and lush greens. All wood fired with great expertise and confidence, Murakoshhi san's works are marvels of accomplishment. Like many Japanese potters, Murakoshi san's work is dominated by Japan's food and tea culture and he is always happiest to hear that his pieces are being used in daily life in addition to being appreciated for their striking beauty.
