Sandy Lockwood is a potter based in New South Wales, Australia. She has undertaken extensive ceramics education culminating in a PhD in Creative Arts in 2018 obtained via research over 5 years. Since establishing her studio in 1980, Sandy has specialised in clay, wood firing and salt glazing. She has been widely exhibited across Australia and internationally, been the subject of a significant number of solo exhibitions and been invited internationally to lecture on wood firing and salt glazing.
Sandy works with clay bodies of her own making, harnessing Australian raw materials that allow her to produce work that speak of its origin. In her work, Sandy seeks to express both movement and stillness that echo the natural world and provide a tangible testament to the effects of time.
Her work is thrown stoneware and porcelain, wood fired in a cross draught kiln, salt glazed and fired with Australian eucalyptus.
