Lara Scobie

Overview

Lara is a graduate of Camberwell Art College in London, and she also holds a Postgraduate in Ceramics from Edinburgh College of Art. She has exhibited extensively and has received many awards for her work including Premier Winner of The Fletcher Challenge in New Zealand and Honourable Mention at Mino Ceramics, Japan. Lara is a fellow of the Craft Potters Association of Great Britain and a professional member of Contemporary Applied Arts in London.

Lara makes slip-cast vessels using ‘parian clay.’ The term ‘parian’ is derived from Paros, the Aegian Island famous for its beautiful white marble, which was used extensively in classical Greek sculpture. Lara applies decoration on to her altered asymmetric forms. Lara has extensive teaching experience having taught ceramics and design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art for over 20 years. Presently, she works full-time on her her ceramic practice.
