Penny German is an artist from Northamptonshire. For the past five years she has been producing a painting a day. These days she spends more time on larger paintings but still aims to produce small oil sketches as a regular discipline. Previously, she specialized in botanical illustration in watercolour, working on projects for the RHS and Oxford University Press. Ten years ago she discovered a love of oil painting and has since been working to capture the effects of light in still lifes and portraits.
Penny has exhibited with both the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in London. Widely collected in the UK and further afield, Penny's work is sensitively composed, beautifuly observed and confidently painted producing works that calmly offer up the subjects effortlessly. From the chalky blush of a fig skin to the shadows across the surface of a glazed pot, her still lifes capture the human experience of seeing with a romantic aspect of apprerciating everday compositions of comfort and familiarity.
