Nakamura san was born in 1954 in the snowy north island of Hokkaido.  He initially studied Architecture at university but was drawn to pursue a career in ceramics, attending the Kyoto Institute Ceramics Degree in 1978.  In 1982 he set up his first studio in Sapporo and sought to capture the beauty of this outstandingly scenic area of Japan.

 

In his nearly forty years of ceramic practice he has won numerous awards for his work across Japan, including the 'Outstanding Performance Award' at the recent 2020 Toki modern Ceramics for Chanoyu Exhibition.

He currently lives in Sapporo and is the President of the Hokkaido Ceramics Society,  This is the first exhibition of his work in the United Kingdom.
