Yuri Takemura was born in 1980 in Aichi, Japan. She lives in Lives in Kanazawa-city, Ishikawa Prefecture. Exposed to art from a young age, with her father working in graphic design, she always dreamed of being an artist herself. Although she began working with oil painting, she felt restricted by a set canvas. In ceramics, Takemura found more freedom. From 2000-2004 she studied ceramics at the Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music. Despite her youth, she has received numerous awards, including the 2008 Special Judges Award at the 8th International Ceramics Competition in Mino.
 
She describes her artistic process as similar to playing music; the curves and undulations in her ceramics are her own personal soundtrack. Her designs are playful and creative, usually featuring colour harmonies or glossy metallic areas contained within rhythmic forms.
