Marie Boyle

Overview

Marie Boyle was born in Paris in 1966. Before her career as a professional artist, she studied graphic design in Paris (E.S.A.M) and afterwards worked in advertising for a time. She later moved to Oxford and took up painting under the tuition of Prue Pardue RA and the St. Ives School of Art.

Taking inspiration from her daily observations, Marie's abstract compositions focus on the relationship between shape, colour and texture within a chosen space. Having grown up with a father who had a keen interest in archaeology and art, her childhood was spent surrounded by objects of interest from his collection. From an early age she found herself drawn to 'Primitive' art, for the seemingly simple yet sophisticated and eloquent use of line and form, the inspiration of which can be noted in her own practice today.

Marie is a member of the Oxford Art Society and associate member of the Penwith Gallery in St Ives.
